CURRENT COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
- Spay and Neuter Programs: Family Pet Assistance Program to provide free spay and neuter services to low income residents. In addition, two annual reduced fee spay/neuter clinics are held during April and October and are open to anyone.
- Veterinary assistance to low income families on a case by case basis, upon request or veterinary referral. Veterinary and grooming subsidies are available for shelter animals.
- Volunteer Program: Socialization of shelter animals via daily dog walking and cat care programs at the Eagle County Animal Shelter. Since the implementation of this program in 1991, adoption rates have soared from 33% to 98%.
- Free 6 week obedience class offered to the owners of any dog adopted from the shelter.
- Foster Care Program for certain animals that require special attention and care in a private home prior to being placed up for adoption.
- Pet Adopt-A-Thons are held at community events and local businesses as needed to promote both adoptions of shelter animals and public awareness of animal issues.
- Community Bulletin Boards: Eight boards are located throughout the valley in highly visible locations and updated weekly by volunteers. The boards include both pictures and descriptions of animals currently available for adoption at the animal shelter.
- Wildlife Assistance: In the fall of 1998 the Humane Society funded a public lecture, Living with Wildlife, by renowned beaver expert Sherry Tippe. We also provided funds and volunteers to rebuild several existing beaver dams on Turkey Creek in the Shrine Pass wilderness area. This work allowed the existing beaver population to remain in the area, while reducing their negative impact on the water supply for the Town of Redcliff and preventing further flooding of area roads.
