Licensing of Dogs & Cats in Eagle County
- All dogs kept in Eagle County shall be licensed.
- All cats kept in Eagle County may be licensed for identification purposes.
- Licenses may be obtained in person or by mail to the Eagle County Animal Control & Shelter at 1400 Fairgrounds Rd PO Box 4105 Eagle, CO 81631.
Restraining Law
- Dogs in unincorporated Eagle County (including the communities of Eagle-Vail and Edwards), must be within 10 feet of a responsible person and under that person's control.
Dog Leash Law
- Leashes are required within the city limits of Basalt and Eagle.
- Leashes are required in the town of Vail areas of Lionshead, Vail Village, Vail Das Schone, on all bike paths and in all public parks.

Animal Noise
- It is unlawful for any owner to fail to prevent his pet animal from disturbing the peace on any other person by habitual or persistent barking, howling, yelping, whining, or any other noise whether the animal is on or off the owner's property.
- It is unlawful for any owner to permit the accumulation of a pet animal's feces on the property on which the animal is kept such that it is detectable visually or odorously by neighbors.
- Proper disposal of feces is required in all public areas of Eagle County.
Threatening of Livestock or Wildlife
- It is unlawful to fail to control any animal so as to prevent it from running after, chasing, biting, attacking or in any way threatening livestock or wildlife.
- Any animal threatening livestock may be immediately destroyed or impounded and upon conviction of the dog owners, the animal my be destroyed by court order and the owner required to pay restitution for damages that my have occurred.
